Grey, Grayer, Greyest

As kids being taught about germs and bacteria, the general conception was that they were bad and they caused illness. A conception reenforced by antiseptics and antibacterial soap manufacturers for years — “bacteria is bad, wash with antiseptic soap, stay clean and stay healthy” and this has been words on marble for many of us growing up.

You know for kids, things are pretty straight forward, they are either good or bad. Lies are bad, truths are good and so on. But then as you grow older, you figure out that things are not as clear cut as they may have seemed. You find that not all bacteria are harmful to you, on the contrary, some people stand a higher risk of getting infections when they bathe with antibacterial soaps, which just knocks logic off the table 😅

Black and white starts looking kind of grey, as you realize that as much as saying the truth is good, it may not be the right to do in all cases and sometimes just being silent is the best course of action. This was also a mind boggling realization.

I ruminate on the concept of “grey area” sometimes and the fact that decisions and actions are always relative to one’s perspective or disposition.
